BA500 Ver2 mic pre kit comes complete with every part down to the last nut and bolt. You only need to pick the options for Input and output transformers, Opamp and DI input when ordering.

Now with 2 BA500 pcb options. Standard BA500v2 PCB takes large JLM111PCB output transformer or NEW BA500v2503 takes JLM2503 or API2503 or any clone 2503 output transformer.

BA500v2 mic pre kit uses 1 of our discrete opamps (New +/-16v version) to provide 60dB of gain. It is aimed at getting big but realistic vocals and acoustic instruments like our Dual99v500 but BA500 can only do 60dB of gain. With the impedance control 200 to 3k it goes from dark and slow to airy and fast tone wise. A centre detent at Z is the best starting point. Also has large fully buffered white LED backlit 34mm VU meter showing output level.

Big Vocals and acoustic instruments mic pre (Cut down version of our Dual99v)

  • VTX input transformer + JLM99v opamp + JLM111PCB output transformer.

Fat Drums, Bass & synth mic pre

  • JLM14 input transformer + JLM99v opamp + JLM111PCB output transformer.

API style mic pre

  • JLM14 input transformer (wired 1:8) + Twenty 5 Twenty SMD opamp + JLM2503 output transformer.

Sound Samples I am not a big fan of samples because if you didn't hear the original instruments sound in the studio with your own ears then really you don't have a true point of reference to gauge the samples against. These samples are more to show the difference between the Dual99v500 and TG500.

All instruments were recorded by Matt Redlich with no EQ or compression. Pres had Impedance left centred in the Z detent and no HPF. Pres were used in their cleanest mode with output trim not pulled to allow for gain overdrive.

Drums - Colin O'Reilly. Acoustic Guitar - Ben Stewart. Electric Guitar - Greg Cathcart.

Excellent

An excellent kit! The modular design of the circuit boards, connected via a ribbon cable, makes them easy to work on. With quick support from Joe and even with my limited experience I managed to build two, averaging about 4 hours per kit. I've used them for tom close mics, as electric guitar room mics and as bass DI. Big and clear, great low end on the toms. Cheers! (Thu Dec 22 2011, 08:42 am )
