Hi all!
I have recently picked up an old Audio Developments mixer to get me out of the box a little and get me twiddling knobs rather than clicking as much! As it's designed for the video industry there are some features I don't need and others I want to add. I will have my synths connected to all channels and a mic or two so with only 8 channels there are some mods I would like to do that keeps those channels available, I have gone pretty in-depth into the manual and schematics and whilst I have basic electronics skills and am pretty handy with a soldering iron some help from others with more experience would be amazing!
- The main mod I wanted was to add some direct outs using a tardigrade kit, Im not sure about the opamps and whether the LME49720 or LM4562 would be a better option?
- I was also planning on adding inserts to each channel but I'm not sure if its worth going balanced as I will be mostly using line level unbalanced pedals.
- it has 2 aux sends that I would like to add stereo returns to the main bus. The mixer has some communications channels with Trs jacks that I was thinking of modifying for that as I have no need for those. I am little stumped on the best way to tap these into the main bus would be? I was thinking the STEREOBUS https://www.jlmaudio.com/shop/stereobus-pcb.html could be what I need? I would like to add a gain pot and pan to each return pair ideally.
- The mixer has a tape return that goes to the monitor bus which I would like to use for a stereo daw input but the issue is it is run off a switch and I can either monitor the main bus outs or the tape return. I would like to combine that so I can jam along with a stereo signal from the daw. Im assuming a simple dual stereo to single stereo summing pcb would be best for this? Is there one available that I am missing or would just using another STEREOBUS pcb be best? I have also used the cue input which already works for this but is only mono.
I hope that all makes sense! and I really appreciate any input or suggestions or if anyone has worked on or modded one of these and has ideas let me know!
Thanks.
Oli

Re: Audio Developments Mixer Mods
LM5562 = LME49720. Use which ever is cheapest as to me they sound identical and both have 0mv output offset. Send me the mixer schematic to my email so I can best advice on how to do the direct outs.Oli wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 11:40 amHi all!

I would need schematics to best advice on this but unbalanced usually always works fine- I was also planning on adding inserts to each channel but I'm not sure if its worth going balanced as I will be mostly using line level unbalanced pedals.
Again I would need to see the schematics to help with this- it has 2 aux sends that I would like to add stereo returns to the main bus. Got it. It will take me a few days. Are you going to do the mods one at a time. If so let me know where you want to start as it is easy for me to work these out one at a time.

Re: Audio Developments Mixer Mods
Thanks so much! I have it in pieces now and am cleaning 40 years of grime out of it. I was planning on tackling most of them around the same time starting with the direct outs and stereo returns.
