NEW PEQ500 Passive EQ

  • The PEQ500 is a full Pultec EQP-1A & EQP-1R type passive EQ circuit combined but with 8 extra low frequencies and 5 extra high frequencies. The Q (bandwidth) control for the high boost bell curve can go twice as wide as a normal Pultec and it can also do one thing I have never seen on any other Pultec or clone do. Pushing on the Q control will switch the high boost to a shelf with the Q control still varying the slope going into the shelf.

Features for each Channel

  • EQ In / out toggle switch with blue LED
  • Electronic Balanced discrete opamp input to allow for large input levels.
  • High Cut shelf from 0 to -16dB switchable to 5kHz, 10kHz, 20kHz.
  • High Boost bell / shelf with variable Q / Slope from 0 to +16dB switchable 1kHz, 1k5kHz, 2kHz, 3kHz, 4kHz, 5kHz, 8kHz, 10kHz, 12kHz, 16kHz, 20kHz, 25kHz.
  • Push on Q control switches from high boost bell to shelf with orange LED lit when in shelf mode
  • Low Cut shelf from 0 to -16dB switchable 10Hz, 20Hz, 30Hz, 40Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, 160Hz, 200Hz, 240Hz, 300Hz.
  • Low Boost shelf from 0 to +16dB switchable 10Hz, 20Hz, 30Hz, 40Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, 160Hz, 200Hz, 240Hz, 300Hz.
Huge output transformer (same size as Neve LO1166).
Internal jumper for output ground lift.
Internal JLM 8 buss connector with jumper settings.
  • Double sided Gold plated rear edge connector.

Customer Reviews

  • Hi Joe,

Thanks for a super product and super service. I got the EQ on last Monday… fast shipping!

It sounds great (and is best priced of all 500-series… you could charge more…) and I’ll get back to you when I’ll be filling up my future mixing console.

I’m currently re-building my in house recording studio, adding much more outboards. I’ve bought several units in the 500-series within the last month, including stuff from: Burgin McDaniel, Empirical Labs, OSA, A Designs Audio, API and JLM Audio – of course.

And will get some more, so looking forward to see your comps.

You have been the best seller of them all, and with the fastest shipping, just so you know.

    Thanks,

    hi joe,

picked it up on Friday and got to play with it for the first time now.

what i really liked on first sight and touch is the built quality. i bought some boutique stuff in the last years but this one feels best so far period. also it feels not so cluttered in reality as i imagined from the pictures. and it looks a bit like an hedgehog ;-)

tested it first on vocals in the mid and high range against my gyratec XIV passive eq. the JLM has definitely more balls. gyratec is great as a bus eq but much smoother and the more aggressive tone of the PEQ is very nice for me on vocals.

then i put it on kick. also very impressive. and then on a really bad recorded bass. wow instant greatness! hard to believe that this bad recording could sound so good with such little effort. besides the gyratec i tested this against my remaining API 560. i sold my second one to pay for the PEQ. had i known before HOW good it sounds, I'd probably sold both to get a pair.

well i think i will need a second one sooner or later...

    thanks & cheers

    Hi Joe

Your PEQ just made everything massive and beefy. Similar to the API but slightly warmer. Needless to say I will be buying one more pair
