Yes if the passive eq output is ok loaded by the 7.5k input impedance of the unbalanced input to the regurgitator.

If the passive eq output prefers a high input impedance use dingo or dingo pup.

Totally depends on the space you have to fit the kit in the piece of gear

1 x 3 way terminal block or Male XLR or Female XLR
1 x NE5532AP or OPA2604AP or None


Hi Joe,
Could you explain what you mean by "or None" as an option for the Regurgitator's op-amp?
Are there scenarios where the op-amp can be omitted?

None means you can use a opamp you already have. The regurgitator must have a dual dip8 opamp to work.

None means you can use a opamp you already have. The regurgitator must have a dual dip8 opamp to work.

Thanks for the quick reply! That makes total sense to me now.

I'm racking up a pair of Ward Beck EQ modules and I'm using the Regurgitator for balancing and gain trim on the inputs and outputs. Should I connect pin 1 of the ins/outs to chassis at the XLR(s), or should they be left disconnected?

I have a Forssell Opto comp with unbalanced out, + (2) and ground (1)
and are going to use the Regurgitator for balanced out.

Do I connect
forssell ground
to
Regurgitator input 3 minus; 1 ground; or not connect?

And on Regurgitator is ground out/in pin1 connected with pcb ground?

Yes connect forssell ground to pin 3 and pin 1 on regurg input.

yes Pin 1 in and out is connected to 0v power on regurg.

So you should only need the +/- power rails as 0v ground is already connect from the output of the forssell to pin 1.

Hi Joe,

I'm planning on building a balancing unit for a Studer 169 with 14 regurgitators, and currently designing the front panel.
Could you please precise the spacing between XLRs, I'm not sure where tu put the 1'' spacing you specified. If you have somewhere the spacing between the 22mm XLR holes centers, it would be perfect !
I understood the PCBs can come by sets of 8, respecting this spacing, can you confirm it is doable to add 6 more next to the first 8, without modifying the spacing between the PCB mounted XLRs ? Or maybe I can order a row of 14 linked ?

HI the spacing between XLR centres is 1" or 25.4mm. The PCBs are 1" or 25.4mm wide with the XLR in the centre of the PCB ends. So the spacing between the 22mm XLR holes is 3.4mm.

You can end stack more 8 way regurgitator PCBs with the same 1" or 25.4mm spacing as they are exactly 8" or 203.2mm long.

Longest continuous joined PCB is 8. Remember if you are doing in and outs that the in and out PCBs will need to be reversed so best to do all ins and then all outs etc.
Example if there are 8 in and 8 outs. Use 2 x 8 way regurgitator PCB with one turned around.

If you want the in and outs to be next to each other look at the dingo pup kit instead.

I just need to balance the 14 direct outputs from the desk, 14 jack inputs at the back, and 14 XLR outputs in front of the rack. So I planned to wire the jack ins to the PCBs, and attach them at the front panel by the XLR sockets. Do I need more than 14 PCBs ?

14 regurgitators is all you will need then.

Alright, that's perfect. One last question, and I stop bothering you... What would you recommend for powering those and adding a on/off LED ? I'm not very keen on putting a power tx in side the rack because of the un balanced wires in it. Do you have a clean way to make this externally, via say a SMPS, and then get +-18v rails internally ?
