Hey Joe,
Building my second one of these for the 1290 and I blew it, my spacer for the xformer came out as I was soldering, so I lost the 1 mm gap on one side (the side near the "JLM AUDIO" label on the PCB).
I've begun desoldering in order to put that gap in there, but this is going to be very tricky without possibly doing some damage - so -
how important is that 1mm gap?
thanks,
Dan

All the points you show are shorting are supposed to be connected to 0v so it should be fine to leave it as is.

can't find the proper thread for the DI kit, but asking here anyway.
the jack socket hole is 12 mm.
How much is the the diameter on the front with the nut and plastic round thing.
I'm asking because I need t make a layout for labelling

thanks

Fet DI uses a 11.5mm diameter hole and has a 16mm diameter plastic disc on the front panel.

Hi there :)
I use the go bewteen kit in some of my diy preamps, but from time to time i need more than 20db pad. I suppose it is as simple as changing the value of one of the resistors, but which one (the 120r?) and what would be an apropriate value if i need around 30db pad?
Kind regards
Jakob

Yes making Rpad smaller will make a larger pad.

Rpad 120R = 20dB PAD
Rpad 33R = 30dB PAD

Hey Joe!

Is it possible to change the value of the pad switch to pad even more? I´d like to use the 1290´s as line boosters as well.

Yes easy. Just make the Rpad resistor smaller in value. Standard 20dB pad is 120R.

All of our mic pre kits and products are made so when on minimum gain and pad in they function as unity gain preamps to just add tone and no gain.

I have a separate power supply to supply +48V to the Go Betweens. Do i need to run a 0V wire back to that power supply ? Or will it find ground through the xlr ground pin to the mic preamp and its ground ?

As long as 0v from the go between connects to the power supply and all audio shields and XLR pin 1 phantom power will work.

As an impulse buyer, I quickly ordered two (2) Go Between kits to use in racking a pair of Langevin AM17 mic pre's. I expect them to arrive by early next week. Some issues I'm now considering include how to include an input impedance switch for the AM17's. Putting the input pad before the mic input impedance switch seems to defeat the purpose of the input impedance switch, but I can't figure out a way to include the input impedance switch before the pad??!!

I realize I could omit the input impedance switch, but I would like to make the mic pre's as functional as possible. Am I overlooking something, and could someone offer other advice.

Thanks for any comments.

Jeff

HI Jeff
This works fine in real use as lower 50ohm out into 150ohm input are lower level so you will usually never want the pad on anyway. And if you run line level or a hot mic in then the higher ratio will give more tone colour which is usually the desired effect anyway. There is no other way to run the pad with impedance ratio switch.

Can't find any documentation on variable pad kit (DI ??) that I'm using (or trying to) on a GoBetween + card (no xfmr - jumpered signal past xfmr mounting holes). I get signal to the variable pad PCB and ICD connector (pin 3), but nothing to the dual pot pins. There's continuity between IDC connectors on GB+ and VarPad, so ribbon cables and connectors seem to be fine. Also looks as if there's mounting for another IDC connector (10 pins; 5 go to ground), with some of the solder pads tracing to the dual pot.
Can someone direct me to info on wiring the variable pad? Schematic and/or wiring diagram?
Thanks!

Jeff

HI Jeff the Variable pad kit just forms U pad made with 2 x 1k log pot and 100R resistor.

Check GO between plus works first with 2 jumpers fitted in the 10 pin header? yes no?

If all ok then remove 2 jumpers from GO between 10 pin header and plug in ribbon cable to Go between header and Variable pad kit and fit 2 jumpers to the DI socket on the variable pad kit and variable pad should now work? yes no

If the variable pad doesn't work make sure you have the 2 jumpers in the correct DI header on Variable pad and ribbon cable is made correctly with no reversal.

If you get stuck attach some photos here or email them to me to check your setup.

Thanks Joe. The double headers on the Variable Pad board confused me, but by tracing out the circuit, wiring is now correct, and both the -20 pad and the variable pad are functioning as expected.
