hooking up my newly assembled VU buffer to a flashstar meter today

should i install the BAT85 diode or the 1n5819 diode as marked on the PCB?

what difference does it make?

I've made up about 5 or 6 of these kits for Flashstars, and the 1N5819 diodes seem to work just fine.

Joe recommends using the glass diodes in the SEW branded meters, which is why they are supplied with the kit. But for Flashstars, I'd stick with the 5819. I'm sure there is some technical reason behind it all, but if JLM thought the BAT5s were better in Flashstars as well, he would have said so.
