Confused...

Post by mcgruff »

Hi

I'm quite interested in buying a Baby Animal kit but don't really understand all the product options. How do the various options affect the sound? If some parts are optional, what effect do they have, in or out? What are the minimum essential selections you need to make for a working preamp?

Thanks for your help :)

You would need

1 BA kit
1 input transformer
1 opamp
1 48v 520mA SMPS 25w
1 DC connector

You would need a case, knob and XLR's to finish the mic pre

Options that are optional but not essential
Di kit.
Output transformer.

JLM14 input transformer is great on drums and bass (Listen to TMP8 samples)
OEP input transformer is great on vocals and acoustic instruments (listen to Dual99v500 samples to get an idea)
JLM99v opamp is fat warm and silky and works great with both of the above transformers and by far the 2 most popular combos built.

There is 52 page thread on the prodigy lab forum about the BA kit link here http://www.prodigy-pro.com/diy/index.php?topic=15245.0
As well several threads on the JLM forum on sound of different combos under BA BAD BA2 and BA4 threads.
