Hi Joe!

I would like to use standard bi-color led's with common cathode (the three legged ones) with your meter kit.

how do I go about hooking them together so I get from 30 leads to the 12 of your 10 led building blocks?

could you maybe please post a little schematic?

best regards and thanks!

Hi Joe!

I would like to use this kit for connecting its leds on acrylic blocks instead of default bargraphs.
As yours are bicolor leds could I choose single leds to achieve for instance 25 green, 10 yellow, 1 orange and 4 red leds,
hence a classic presentation?
(How) Is that doable?
I'm not an experienced guy in electronics, so...

Best regards!
Ryoma

Image

Both separate BI Color common anode and Classic mode with normal colored LEDs will work fine.

The LEDs are in a 10 x 8 matrix so 18 wires are only needed to connect all 80 leds. (20,19,18,17,16,15,14,13,12,11) x (XR1,XG1,XR2,XG2,XR3,XG3,XR4,XG4)

Leds all need to be high brightness types due to the matrix time devision.

For BI Color leds XR = Red Anodes and XG = Green Anodes. (Orange = Red on image). Each XR and XG drives 10 anodes for that color (20,19,18,17,16,15,14,13,12,11)

For classic meter with normal high brightness 25 green, 10 yellow , 1 orange and 4 red leds. For VU mode use only XG1, XG2, XG3 and XG4 or for PPM mode use only XR1, XR2, XR3 and XR4.

Hope that makes sense.
Joe :-)

Hello Joe,

Can you please explain what "rev 2" means,is it soft-and/or hardware changes?

Thank you in advance,

Udo.

HI Udo

This is explained in the first post on this thread in the build info. This is a PCB update only so no resistor mods are needed.

From first post on this thread.

"NEW VUPPMGR40v2 PCB Changes
R13 & R14 no longer need to be changed at all. (Instead R15 has been changed from 200k to 300k and R16 has been changed from 560R to 820R. C6c deleted). C12 moved. and VR2 VU PPM balance trim pot turned 90 degree.
J6 added. Jumper fitted to J6 normal PPM release time 650mS like version 1. Jumper J6 removed for shorter PPM release time of 350mS. J2 jumper is still not used."

Thank you Joe,

I must have overseen this (btw, have you seen my little review on the la500? :D )

Cheers,

Hello Joe,

long time no hear,hahaha....hope you're fine.
I have a question as follows:

I want to add on a little OLED based meter capable showing X-Y mode for correlation ("Jellyfish").
It has unbalanced inputs with around 51k input impedance.
Can you tell me a good point to tap off the unbalanced signals(so after TL074) ?
Ground reference is the same as for the VUPPMGR40,both driven from a powerstation.

Thanks in advance,

Udo,

Pin 1 of the TL074 is the unbalanced output of the balanced in amp so should work for you. This is after the input level trimpot as well.

Probably best to add a series cap if the unbalanced inputs into the X-Y OLED are not already cap coupled.

Thank you Joe,

very helpful because I can't find your (printed) schematics you sent with the kit long time ago atm (rev 1 boards).
Since the OLED meter is stuffed with smd parts and nearly completely sealed I can't tell if it has caps on inputs.
For safety reaons can you tell me a rough value for the series caps to start with?

Best,

Udo.

Since the input to your OLED module is 51k then 1uF should be fine.

I'm an OEM and 2 of these arrived this morning, I might need another 20+

But in all these pages I can't find a definitive specification or list of links/functions. Also no circuit diagram ?

Am I missing something ? Nothing was included in the kit.

Thanks
