Intermittent Scratchiness w/ Baby Animals

Post by evan38109 »

I have four channels of Baby Animal mic pres. Recently, I've noticed that with phantom power on, all of the channels will slowly build up a scratchiness that will get louder until there is a moderately loud pop, then they will be quite for a few minutes before repeating the process. The same problem occurs on all four channels.

They are set up with 2520 op amps, if that makes a difference.

Any ideas?

Well, this is embarrassing.

I spent days tearing this little sucker apart trying to figure out why it was suddenly, after months of reliable operation, giving me problems. Turns out that my patch bay was going bad instead and that the Baby Animals are just fine. D'oh!

... and there I was trying to figure out how a capacitor somewhere might accumulate and discharge into the signal path ....

The trouble / strength of the BA is that it is actually such a simple signal path, and not much can go wrong with it once its working.
