Re: BAN Build Thread
I'm pretty sure I tried them both ways round as I had the same thought but wasn't 100% sure. Will it damage them to it them in backwards? It seemed to work much the same either way around, I guess some fets are semi reversible anyway? I will try again to be sure tho

though "In parallel" would have done

Re: BAN Build Thread
hmm, I have some 2SK170 what is the expected difference over the BC550?
how do I double the input transistors?
EDIT I tried some SK170BL, but they were very low gain.... something must be wrong..

Re: BAN Build Thread
when my fiddle player first listened to the BAN she said, "It's like it's not there"
yup, almost. I've not had another pre that even comes close to that.
Of course often we do want it to be there and affect the sound, but the BAN is great when you just want to hear the instrument (and the mic)

Re: BA output caps
BTW is it really necessary to load a LL1538 withh 440pF across the secondary? seems a bit excessive to me, and if i were to criticise the sound I'm now getting from the BA it would be a tiny lack of air.... i guess i'll try with just 220pF, or a zobel of 22k and 220pF which is what i have on these t...

Re: BA output caps
well I've decided after some listening that the caps are not really the source of my dissatisfaction, rather the transformers are more relevant.... neither the OEP nor the JLM 14 were really doing it for me so- I've changed from 4 channels with JLM14 to 2 channels with lundahl LL12538, and 2 channel...

Re: JLM 60Watt Power AMP Kit Now Available
BTW, I have a passive balanced volume control that I use in a switching box to select which source to monitor on which monitors. It is a stepped attenuator, and its balanced by putting a conventional vol control in each side of the balanced signal, so for stereo its a 4 gang attenuator. it works fin...

Sealed box, rather small internal space, v v heavy and well braced, d'appolito config, no info on later xover, drivers also slightly changed so who knows? Running inputs balanced. Scuse brevity posting from phone

Re: JLM 60Watt Power AMP Kit Now Available
Thanks for working that out! It would be great if it can be done that simply. Are there advantages to building a separate board with opamp driven active filters? Or is it really unneccesary? The existing crossover may be improvable on... It's not the last version linn did , and IMHO the tweeter coul...

Re: JLM 60Watt Power AMP Kit Now Available
yep drivers all nominally 8 ohms, woofers measure about 6.2ohms DC and tweeter about 5.6ohms DC.
midbass and bass drivers identical as far as i can tell.

Re: BAN Build Thread
I was lucky enough to get a Baby Animal Neutral from Joe recently, and I've built it and its great! it has the solid mids I was looking for, its not over bright or harsh at all, and whilst it is very neutral, it lets the colour of the instrument come through, not "clinical" at all. this has made me ...

Re: JLM 60Watt Power AMP Kit Now Available
I'm going the 3way monoblock way... for now anyway, keeping it as modular as possible, so I can change to 3 stereo amps if I want later I have one monoblock working so far. just tri-amped passive for now, active crossovers are the next stage if i want to adjust the fixed gain of each amp to balance ...
