Re: 1290 Build Thread

what is the difference in sound between your kits and something like the seventh circle or others that claim to follow the 1272 or 1290 circuit exactly.

i'm sure yours sounds good, i'm just curious about the sonic differences.

Re: 1290 Build Thread

what do you think the minimum case dimensions could be for two channels, carnhills in/out, no DI, smps external supply i assume the the regulator board also needs to be in there? using a scavenged smaller case like behringer or dmp2 or 3 , open to recommendations on this is a tight layout not conduc...

Re: MONO Mic pre kit BUILD THREAD

is there any way to use the carnhill mic input transformer with this?

also, are there any other ic op amp replacements besides the opa2604a (even ones that you might consider low fidelity)

vintage console ic mic pre's

i used to own a trident 70 back in the day and really liked the mic preamps. i got to thinking recently that many of the well-regarded vintage ic-based consoles used not very-well regarded op amps... trident, neotek, older series soundcraft, soundworkshop, neve 81 series, studer 169, harrison, etc e...

Re: MONO Mic pre kit BUILD THREAD

thanks for the detailed explanations. so the mono is actually capable of 83db of gain with the opa2604 and the oep wired for 23db of gain. excellent. ( you might want to explicity state this somewhere so you don't miss out on sales) would it be hard to modify a baby animal to use with two 9v batteri...

Re: MONO Mic pre kit BUILD THREAD

forgot one thing. i just noticed that there are no options for an output transformer on the mono. so i think you would have to deduct 6db from your calculations.

Re: MONO Mic pre kit BUILD THREAD

thanks for the reply. just a few more questions. the opa2604 is a dual opamp, correct? so using this opamp you have two gain stages? will you get comparable amount of gain using a single 2604 compared with 2 jlm99v opamps? still unclear whether this amp is more like a baby animal dual, or a regular ...

Re: MONO Mic pre kit BUILD THREAD

is this the same circuit as the baby animal? i'm a little confused about how much gain the baby animals can put out. it says in one place that it is a 60db amplifier, but on the build page it says you can get 72 db with an oep input transformer. so what is the maximum gain you can get with this? als...
