Re: Baby Animal clipping
Hey mate I have not noticed this at all. I find a better tone in most instances when I get the pre up a bit and working past the 2 o'clockish mark but only have clipping issues if the source is too hot and then I'll tend to go for the pad if I can't get it manageable (at the source). Not sure if thi...

Re: Mully's JLM Build Posts
Hey Kev, I feel honored mate. I've found your detail many a time while looking for a good LA 2A compressor to build... and all other manner of DIY. Still looking at LA2A options however... need to get it sorted asap for the current project. Sorry, I'm in Adelaide but would be more than happy to shoo...

Re: JLM Neve clone vs Golden Age
Hiya Z, don't know if it helps you at all but I've found the 1290 to have a slightly 'silkier' tone to it while retaining the detail of the 99V. I think I prefer a straight bass through the 99V but guitar and vocal through the 1290 is simply killer and I'm keenly hunting for a better compressor opti...

Re: Mully's JLM Build Posts
Oh oh.... sprung by someone who actually knows what he's doing. The controller was going to be a home brew BUT I found some good ones out of rice land that are cheaper, pre built and have more features than anything I could build for the price point. There's a few all over eBay and the one I ...

Hmm... I'd say he's a herbal tea drinker... can't be that clever drinking bourbon.
Anyway Mac, you've got a head start coz he's already named a compressor after you!
Cheers.

Re: Valve Preamp & Compressor Kits- AT Interview
Hey Joe (is that a song? ) thanks for the update. This sounds interesting. Will keep an eye on the store for the new mono kit. A valve BA with the MAC side chain sounds like something we'd all want. The full MAC kit looks tempting but I'm after a single channel at present... however, if th...

Re: Valve Preamp & Compressor Kits- AT Interview
So does anyone know much about the 'new' kits on the drawing board?
I wanna pull the trigger on a LA2A kit but reckon Joe's may be a better option (will sound excellent, local, good support etc).
Anyone here built an LA2A style comp?

Re: Mully's JLM Build Posts
In case anyone needs this answer, it's for the 6dB set point.. no big deal which value you use really... anyway... some more photos. :D http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/tt276/mick_mullins/JLM%20Gear/DSCF1157.jpg Here's the assembled BA co-habitating with a 1290 in the custom rack. Loads of milling...

Re: Valve Preamp & Compressor Kits- AT Interview
Hey Chris thanks for the reference to the MAC thread. Will go take another looksee. "Yes there is a Baby Animal Tube kit coming. And it does run on 48v. THIS is something I will be very keen to see a release for plus the compressors you mention in that interview Joe. Quite keen. I'm prepared to hold...

Valve Preamp & Compressor Kits- AT Interview
Ok ok.... so if you didn't know, Joe is interviewed by Brad Watts on the Audio Technology website and mentions an upcoming valve preamp kit(!) plus some compressors he's working on for release....
Anyone know any more about these???

Re: Mully's JLM Build Posts
Question for any one who has built the 1290 kit or even for Joe or Matt, the overlay PDF shows either a 4k7 or 5k1 resistor across the trim pot. Which value should be used?
Thanks in advance.

Re: MAC - Micro Auto Compressor
So given the texture an LA 2A can add, would I be well pleased in the same way with a MAC? I've been looking at the options to DIY the LA 2A and would consider building the MAC instead if it will provide the same 'musicality'. Any thoughts about the MAC from anyone now that it's been around a little...

Mully's JLM Build Posts
Greets all, so here is the draft build of my first Baby Animal. The rack is setup to allow for 4 pre amps but after much playing etc, have decided to make it a two channel and put a 1290 in the other side. http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/tt276/mick_mullins/JLM%20Gear/PIC_0195.jpg The front panel ...
