My use-case is to drive various computer-based DSP active speakers via a multi-channel audio interface. I think for a reasonably flexible setup I'd like to build something very close to the dolby setup, but allocating a subset of the channels as bridged. I.e. 16 bridged for 8 bass/ mid bass drivers ...
